Bread is a type of baked food. It is made mainly of wheat flour and water. Usually a little salt, yeast (to make it rise) and sugar are added. Bread is one of the most popular foods on our planet. The first bread was made more than 12,000 years ago, but it was quite stale. Over time, the Egyptians realized that allowing wheat dough to ferment causes it to gas and rise, producing a softer bread.
